Case study – Comparative characterization of the properties of a gel-model for pharmaceutical application

Sector: Pharmacy

Customer type: Group

Service contact: R&D

The Customer uses a gel-model within the framework of the development of injection devices and uses Rheonis to better characterize the relative behaviors of this gel-model and the target product with regard to the conditions ofapplication.

Finely discriminate between texture and rheological properties

In response to this request, RHEONIS implemented its know-how in rheometric techniques to finely qualify the similarities and differences in texture and rheological behavior between the two products.

The stages of the study were therefore as follows:

  1. Adaptation of rheometric protocols to the fine discrimination of behaviors of interest and comparative measurement
  2. Interpretation with regard to the issue of application issues

Intervention System Gauge

Product & Ingredient 20%
Process & Application 20%
Measurement & Instrumentation 60%
Methods for Industry 40%

Instrumental expertise at the service of device development

This preliminary study made it possible to characterize and discriminate between products whose measurement posed difficulties for the Customer. The protocols put in place make it possible to characterize certain characteristic properties for injection by syringe and thus to make the formulation of the gel-model more reliable.

Benefits of instrumental analysis for device development

Representative tests of characteristic application properties (texture, rheology, behavior at interfaces, …)

Make the development of model fluids more reliable
