Case study – Collaborative study of substitution and industrialization of an anti-spray polymer additive for lubricating oil

Sector: Lubricants

Customer type: Group

Contact department: R&D, Production

The Customer wishes to substitute an anti-spray polymer additive and make the lubricating oil production conditions more reliable for application textile. He therefore called on Rheonis to reformulate a lubricating oil with performance equivalent to the current product and to support them in the transition to an industrial scale.

Predictive instrumental techniques for process reformulation and optimization

RHEONIS has implemented its know-how in formulation and in instrumental techniques in order to make reliable, quantify and control the performance of the products and to guide the choice of a suitable replacement polymer additive. RHEONIS and the Client have collaborated on this project in stages for more than three years.

The main stages of the project:

  1. Performance demonstration of an instrumental method to quantify the anti-projection property
  2. On-site diagnosis and sampling
  3. Study to understand the causes of variability in production and application
  4. R&D study of accelerated reformulation and benchmark of candidates
  5. Support for the optimization of industrialization conditions

A laboratory and predictive approach at the service of accelerated reformulation and industrialization

The approach developed around a predictive instrumental method enables the performance of lubricating oils to be quantified and the variability phenomena encountered under industrial conditions to be assessed. The reformulation study through the benchmark of substitute products made it possible to select the candidate best suited to the Customer's expectations and then to provide study support and operational recommendations during the industrialization phase.
