Eugene C. Bingham

Eugene C. Bingham is often considered one of the founding fathers of the rheology, “Science of matter in flow and its deformations”.

His pioneering work in the 1920s highlighted so-called fluids threshold ", whose particularity is to flow like fluid when applied to them shear stress greater than one threshold value and maintain behavior solid below.

Everyday products such as ketchup or toothpaste exhibit such characteristics.

Bingham will propose in 1928 with his colleague Mr Reiner the term " rheology (from the Greek rheo, to flow, and logos, study) to name this new field of scientific research linked toindustry boom and polymer chemistry.

The American will also actively contribute to the creation of the first rheology society and to the development of this discipline.
