Atelier des Méthodes April 7 & 8, 2020 – Phase Change Focus

Industrial transformation operations involve in the majority of cases phase changes of matter, passing from states powders or liquids to pasty even solid. These transformations are major sources of variability controlled essentially by empiricism.

The two days of April of theAtelier des Méthodes aim to offer you an introduction to advanced and unconventional rheometric techniques and a deepening in the context of their implementation for phase change products (resins, raincoats...).

April 7 – Introduction to advanced and unconventional rheometry

On this day of discovery and initiation, you will discover the advanced and unconventional modes of use of the rheometer to quantify many physical properties (phase transition, tribology, spinning, sticky, etc.) complementary to the usual rheological properties and essential for simulating behavior in process or in application.

Type of day

DISCOVERY & INITIATION

Objectives

Discover advanced modes of use of the rheometer – Understand the principles of developing predictive protocols – Discuss on the basis of concrete case studies – Attend demonstrations and presentations of case studies.

Program

  • Reminder of the main concepts of rheology and principle of operation of a rheometer
  • Industrial issues related to the product/process and instrumental simulation approaches on rheometer
  • Introduction to rheometry advanced (thixotropy, viscoelastic measurement, …)
  • Other properties of interest (stringy, sticky, lubricating, …) and introduction to unconventional rheometry
  • Case Study Overview
  • Demonstration of rheometric protocols and hybrid instrumental configurations

Speakers

Dr. Nicolas Mougin, Technical Director, Co-founder of Rheonis

Duration

7h

Prices

€120 excl. VAT / participant (€80 excl. VAT for additional participant)

April 8 – Scientific methods and instrumental approaches for studying the behaviors of phase change products and their scientific influencing factors

This day of advanced training will be dedicated to the challenges of phase changes in process and application for different types of products (resins, waxes, etc.) and to rheometric practice, the development of dedicated protocols, the interpretation and modeling of measurement data to anticipate the behavior of your materials, from formulation to application.

Type of day

“INTHANCED” TRAINING

Objectives

Make the link between physical parameters, application properties and process behavior related to phase changes – Understand the challenges of instrumental analysis to quantify, understand and anticipate the impact of formulation and implementation factors – Discover and /or practice viscoelastic rheometric techniques and the variety of protocols

Program

  • Overview of the main physical parameters associated with phase changes (setting, cross-linking, gelation,…) in application and in process (mixed, extrusion, casting, heat treatment, impregnation, drying, …)
  • Elements of methods to transform instrumental analysis into a tool for understanding
  • Reminder of the operating principles of the rheometer and modes of use
  • Overview of case studies related to ingredient benchmarking, formulation and process optimization
  • Practical workshop on dedicated instrumental protocols (mechanical strength, setting kinetics, melting/crystallization hysteresis, stickiness, etc.)

speaker

Dr. Nicolas Mougin, Technical Director, Co-founder Rheonis

Duration

7h
