Preliminary study to predict the stability of greases in aging by rheology

Sector: Greases & Lubricants

Customer type: Group

Service contact: R&D

The Customer encounters problems with the stability of its greases and calls on Rheonis to assess the ability of rheometric techniques to anticipate the aging stability of its products in R&D.

Assess the ability of rheometric techniques to anticipate stability

In response to this request, RHEONIS implemented its know-how of rheometric techniques to adjust protocols to interpret the trend towards stability of Customer formulations.

The stages of this feasibility study were therefore as follows:

  1. Adaptation of rheometric protocols in rheometry in flow and viscoelastic with consideration of thixotropic effects and thermal cycles
  2. Comparative measurement, interpretation with regard to the issue of stability
  3. Issue of a summary report with an opinion on the relevance of the approach

Instrumental expertise to develop predictive approaches

This preliminary study on a few samples made it possible to test and validate the predictive capacity of rheometric techniques to anticipate the stability of Customer formulations, with conclusive results. However, no single parameter makes it possible to simply correlate rheological properties and aging stability.

Advantages of instrumental analysis for stability studies

Have a screening and anticipation approach

Make product developments more reliable

Limit real-time aging tests
